Liposuction Recovery



LIPOSUCTION RECOVERY INFORMATION

1. Upon returning home or from the recovery facility, you are to stay in bed with bathroom privileges only. You may move to different rooms with assistance to relax there, but you must take it easy. For the first 24-48 hours, you must sleep on your back with pillows behind your head and under your knees to remedy stress points of the lower back. You may drink liquids when you are home by evening;  you may have a light meal.

2. You will be sent home with a liposuction compression garment. This will be worn for the first week, 24 hours a day. You may NOT get the post operative site wet during this period.

3. After the first week, you can bathe or shower. You may then, take the compression garment off, but put it back on immediately after you’ve dried yourself.

4. The girdle must be worn for a period of four (4) weeks.

5. Start walking the next day. Go for long walks but don’t tire yourself out.

6. More strenuous exercise can be commenced after four (4) weeks.

7. Massaging the surgical area can commence after four (4) weeks. You can either use hand massage or an electric massager, Massage for 15-20 minutes per day.

8. No alcohol or spicy foods for fourteen (14) days following surgery.

9. Do not take Aspirin or Vitamin E for fourteen (14) days following surgery.

10. Avoid smoking two (2) weeks for following surgery.

11. No direct sun on the area for the six (6) weeks following surgery.

12. Do not remove any bandages or tapes.

13. Do not lift, push or pull.

14. Avoid strenuous activity, getting overheated or sunbathing.

15. Do not drive a car until your doctor gives you clearance.

16. Keep all appointments at prescribed times unless advised and alternate time that will not jeopardize your operative recovery.

Report to your Nurse or Doctor the following (If occurred):

- Excessive pain
- Rise in temperature over 100 F
- Injury to area
- Excessive bleeding
- Excessive swelling
