FACIAL SURGERY RECOVERY INFORMATION

(Liposuction of Chin, Lip Lift, Fat Injections, Lip Injections,
Cheek or Chin Implant, Mole or Skin Lesion Removal or Scar Revision, Otoplasty)

1. Sleep with the head of your bed elevated for one week, by putting two pillows at the head of the bed.

2. Apply gel masks every two (2) hours during the first 3 days after surgery.

3. Stay up as much as possible after the first 24 hours, but rest when you become tired.

4. Avoid bending or lifting heavy things for a week after surgery and also avoid bumping your nose.

5. Take only prescribed medications or Tylenol, NOT aspirin, as it promotes bleeding.

6. Avoid getting the nasal dressing wet. If it becomes loose, let your doctor know.

7. Do NOT blow your nose at all for about ten (10) days after surgery.

8. Avoid sniffing, or sneezing, but if you must, try to sneeze with your mouth open

9. Report any excessive bleeding that persists after mild pressure and lying down for 15 minutes.

10. Do NOT use nose drops or rub your nostrils with Kleenex.

11. You may clean the outside of the nose gently with Q-tips moistened with peroxide.

12. After the dressing is removed, your nose will be swollen and will remain so for several weeks. In fact, it takes at least one (1) year for ALL swelling to subside.  Changes occur slowly and you need to be patient.

13. Do NOT wear regular glasses or sunglasses that rest on the bridge of the nose for at least four (4) weeks. Your doctor will instruct you in the method of taping the glasses to your forehead to avoid pressure on the nose.

14. Absolutely avoid sun or sunlamp for six (6) weeks after surgery; heat may cause your nose to swell.

15. Do NOT swim for one (1) month since injuries are common during swimming.

16. Do NOT be concerned if following the removal of the dressing, your nose, eyes and upper lip would show some swelling and discoloration – this usually clears in two – three (2-3) weeks. In certain patients, it may require 12 – 18 months for ALL of the swelling to completely subside.

PLEASE CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.
