BREAST REDUCTION RECOVERY INFORMATION
1. Upon returning home or from the recovery facility, you are to stay in bed with bathroom privileges for 24 hours only. For the first week, you must sleep on your back with three (3) pillows behind your bed.
2. You may drink liquids when you are home by evening, you may have a light meal.
3. You will be sent home in a post surgical bra. This will be worn for 24 hours a day for the first two (2) weeks. You may not get the operative site wet during this period.
4. After the first week, you can bathe or shower with assistance. You may then, take the post surgical bra off, but put it back on immediately after you’ve dried yourself. Wear the bra for a total of four (4) weeks.
5. Wear clothes that are easy to put on or take off for two (2) weeks following surgery.
6. Do not do any lifting, pushing, pulling or excessive stretching until your doctor has instructed you to resume normal activity.
7. Avoid strenuous activity, getting overheated or sunbathing for eight (8) weeks.
8. More strenuous exercise can be commenced after six (6) weeks.
9. No alcohol or spicy foods for fourteen (14) days following surgery
10. Do not take Aspirin or Vitamin E for fourteen (14) days following surgery.
11. No direct sun on the area for six (6) weeks following surgery.
12. Do not remove any bandages or tape(s).
13. Do not drive a car until your doctor gives you clearance.
14. Keep all appointments at prescribed times unless advised and alternate time that will not jeopardize your operative recovery.
15. Report to your Nurse or Doctor the following (if occurred):
- Excessive pain
- Rise in temperature over 100 F
- Injury to area
- Excessive swelling
